Biography
GREG SWANSON represents clients on payments, fintech, financial regulatory, and privacy matters. He advises financial institutions, technology companies, and other businesses on the development and launch of innovative payment products, digital asset and stablecoin initiatives, investigations and examinations, and cross-border financial services matters. His practice sits at the intersection of financial services, technology, and business strategy.
Prior to joining Sidley, Greg was senior corporate counsel for Amazon, where he provided strategic advice to support the launch and development of payments products across the company. He was a trusted adviser to leadership of the company’s licensed payments entities, and supported regulated payments and credit, gift/prepaid cards, and payment acceptance teams, as well as strategic partnerships with banks, fintechs, and others for consumer, B2B, and internal treasury management use cases. Greg also supported regulatory investigations of the company’s payments and other activities. Finally, he served as the central owner of legal issues where state and federal privacy laws overlap with financial regulations.
Before Amazon, Greg advised global U.S. and non-U.S. banking agencies on a range of bank regulatory matters, including M&A transactions, capital and liquidity requirements, permissible activities, and firm-wide resolution planning strategies. He also advised leading global technology companies launching new regulated financial services.
