U.S. Agencies Extend Certain Deadlines for Employee Plans During COVID-19 National Emergency

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic-related challenges faced by employee plan sponsors, participants and service providers, the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) published EBSA Disaster Relief Notice 2020-01 (the Notice), and the Department of Labor (DOL), EBSA, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) jointly published a rule1  (the Joint Rule) to extend the deadlines and timeframes set forth below for employee benefit plans, participants and beneficiaries affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
