A tenet of the Sidley culture is to give back to the communities where we live and work. Every year, our lawyers and staff support and participate in a variety of Chicago service projects and volunteer initiatives that enrich the lives of others.
Our Chicago office has committed substantial resources to the community and a variety of pro bono activities. In addition to an extensive commitment to death penalty, veterans’ rights, and asylum cases, Chicago lawyers serve more than 200 cultural, academic and civic organizations and devote more than 45,000 pro bono hours each year to a variety of important matters. In 1984, Sidley was the first law firm in Chicago to “adopt” a school and we are particularly proud of our relationship with Kanoon Magnet Elementary School. The partnership, now 40 years old, is the longest running for any Chicago public school. Many generations of Sidley lawyers and staff have contributed their time, energy, and resources to assist in improving the educational opportunities afforded to the students at Kanoon. Our Kanoon students enrich our lives, too, with cultural performances and book chats.
