On March 1, 2026, Vietnam's Law on Artificial Intelligence (AI Law) came into effect. The AI Law, which serves as a comprehensive framework for the regulation of AI systems and their domestic and foreign developers, providers, deployers, and users, was developed by incorporating elements of the EU AI Act as well as the AI laws of Japan and South Korea. Like the EU AI Act, the AI Law selectively applies its requirements and restrictions to AI systems based on risk classification (high, medium, or low).March 1, 2026

On February 19, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury released two resources to guide AI use in the financial sector, the Artificial Intelligence Lexicon and the Financial Services AI Risk Management Framework (RMF). The AI Lexicon compiles common definitions for AI concepts from industry, academic, and government resources to facilitate communication across the financial sector. The RMF provides operational guidance in the form of tools and reference materials to help financial institutions evaluate AI use cases and manage risks.February 19, 2026

On February 18, 2026, the Spanish Data Protection Agency published guidelines with respect to the usage of agentic AI systems to process personal data. The guidelines provide an overview of agentic AI systems, outline potential vulnerabilities of reliance on agentic AI systems, and list measures that data controllers and processors may adopt to ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations.February 18, 2026

EU

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce announced the launch of the AI Agent Standards Initiative on February 17, 2026. The aim of the Initiative is to facilitate industry-led development of AI agent standards. The Initiative is currently open for public comment, and NIST's Center for AI Standards and Innovation expects to host virtual workshops on sector-specific barriers to AI adoption in April 2026. Applications to participate are due before March 20, 2026.February 17, 2026

On February 4, 2026, the General Law Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly introduced Committee Bill No. 5 (S.B. 5), An Act Concerning Online Safety. The Act would implement various requirements and restrictions relating to AI development and usage, including with respect to consumer disclosures, AI companions, and automated employment-related decision processes. The Act would also establish and enable a number of AI-related programs and organizations.February 4, 2026

On February 10, 2026, the Australian Communications and Media Authority released updates to the Commercial Radio Code of Practice that will require radio stations to disclose when programs are hosted by a synthetic voice generated by AI. The new Code will come into effect on July 1, 2026.February 10, 2026
