Sidley Litigators Recognized by The National Law Journal Legal Awards 2023

Sidley’s appellate team has been honored by The National Law Journal Legal Awards 2023. The firm has been named to the publication’s “Appellate Hot List” for the sixteenth consecutive year. According to The National Law Journal, “[t]he law firms and attorneys being recognized this year stood out for their work guiding clients through high-stakes litigation.” In addition to this group recognition, Regulatory Litigation partner William R. Levi has been named a “D.C. Rising Star.” This prestigious group consists of the Washington, D.C. region’s 40 most promising lawyers under the age of 40 “who have wielded influence in their practice areas in the D.C. area and beyond,” according to The National Law Journal.

Sidley’s Supreme Court and Appellate practice is known for its exceptional Supreme Court experience, resoundingly deep bench, and extensive federal appellate experience. One of the first law firms to have a dedicated national Supreme Court and Appellate practice, Sidley represents clients before the U.S. Supreme Court, all federal courts of appeals, and state appellate and supreme courts. The team is widely recognized for its leadership in addressing groundbreaking and complex questions of federal and state law. Since the inception of the practice in 1985, the team, which includes 26 former Supreme Court clerks, has briefed over 250 cases on the merits and argued more than 125 cases before the Court.

As a “D.C. Rising Star,” Will Levi has been selected among a group of “innovators who develop unique practice niches, secure wins for clients, cultivate robust books of business, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.” Will’s standout work over the past year includes leading the successful briefing efforts in both the district court and the Ninth Circuit on behalf of Microsoft Corp. in its US$69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard – the largest tech merger in history – which resulted in a denial of the FTC’s request to enjoin the merger. He also led a Sidley team in filing a high-profile amicus brief on behalf of a coalition of former government officials supporting respondents in Biden v. Nebraska, in which the Supreme Court held that the president’s order waiving student debt obligations was not authorized. Will regularly represents clients in a broad range of appeals, complex commercial litigation, regulatory disputes, and government enforcement actions. He also advises clients on strategic legal issues arising from litigation, congressional subpoenas and hearings, and government regulation and investigations.
