Biography

NATHAN BURKES focuses his practice on internal investigations and complex commercial disputes.

Nathan advises companies and their boards of directors in internal investigations and matters related to government enforcement. He has experience conducting sensitive investigations involving whistleblower complaints and allegations of criminal misconduct. Nathan has also assisted clients in conducting proactive, global risk assessments and corporate governance reform.

In addition, Nathan advises and represents companies in complex commercial disputes across the country in state and federal courts. He has experience in a range of high-risk business disputes, including international commercial disputes, class actions, securities and shareholder litigation, and employment matters.

Prior to joining Sidley, Nathan served as a law clerk for The Honorable Mark T. Pittman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. During law school, Nathan served as a staff member for The Georgetown Law Journal and an executive editor for The Georgetown Law Journal’s Annual Review of Criminal Procedure.

Prior to law school, Nathan graduated Phi Beta Kappa, from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in economics. As an undergraduate, he was a rower on the men’s crew, earning American Collegiate Rowing Association All-Academic honors.
