Biography

AMIR FREUND is a counsel in Sidley’s Palo Alto office and a member of the IP Litigation practice. Amir’s practice focuses on patent infringement and trade secret litigation involving high-tech hardware and software technology, such as computer networking, telecommunications devices, semiconductors, integrated circuit design, memory circuits, fabrication processes, e-commerce, and digital radio devices. Amir is experienced in litigating cases in district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), as well as Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Amir also advises clients on IP related issues including patent portfolio management, portfolio analysis for purposes of licensing and litigation, and litigation counseling in connection with corporate transactions.

Amir is also active in pro-bono matters related to immigration, foster youth, and identity theft.

Amir earned his LL.M. in Law, Science, and Technology from Stanford Law School in 2012, and received his LL.B from Haifa University, Israel, in 2007.

Representative Matters

  • Ericsson v. Samsung (ITC) – Represented Samsung in a high-profile worldwide IP battle related to 5G technology, the case settled favorably for Samsung before trial.
  • Motorola Solutions v. Hytera (ND Ill.) – Represented Motorola Solutions in a trade secret misappropriation and copyright infringement suit involving digital radio systems technology, securing a $764 Million jury verdict.
  • Hytera v. Motorola Solution (ND OH) - Represented Motorola Solutions against allegations of patent infringement involving digital radio systems technology, successfully obtaining a summary judgment of non-infringement.
  • Cisco Systems v. Arista Networks (ITC) – Represented Cisco in two ITC investigations involving networking technology, securing victories in two ITC trials.
  • Cisco Systems v. MOSAID (D. Del.) – Represented Cisco against allegations of patent infringement involving wireless and Power-Over-Ethernet technologies.
  • Intel Corp. v. Future Link (D. Del.) – Represented Intel against allegations of patent infringement involving interconnect and chipsets technology, the case settled favorably for Intel before trial.
  • Innovative Automation v. Kno Inc. (ND Cal.) – Represented Kno, a subsidiary of Intel, against allegations of patent infringement involving education software technology.
