Biography

DANIEL LIM brings over 20 years of civil litigation and government investigations experience to advise clients on complex discovery issues and subpoena responses. Dan works closely with the firm’s lawyers and clients to provide guidance on the law, technology, and best practices in the discovery of electronic information.

Most recently, Dan served as Chief of the E-Discovery Office at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division. As the supervising attorney of the office, Dan led a team of attorneys that offered guidance on the legal, technical, strategic, and project management aspects of the E-Discovery process during civil litigations, criminal proceedings, and investigations. Dan was integral in establishing best practices on the use of analytics and artificial intelligence technologies in discovery workflows for affirmative and defensive cases. During his time at the DOJ, he was also responsible for creating and presenting the E-Discovery training curriculum for Civil Division attorneys and drafting best practices guides on the discovery process.

Prior to his time at the DOJ, Dan worked at the New York City Law Department. During his five years, Dan served as assistant corporation counsel, senior counsel and, eventually, deputy director of the E-Discovery group.

Community Involvement

Membership & Activities

  • Steering Committee Member and Co-Chair of Publications Committee; The Sedona Conference Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production (Working Group 1) 2024–2026.

Pro Bono

  • Served as pro bono counsel through Tzedek DC for a defendant in a debt collection matter where the debt collection was adversely impacting defendant’s ability to obtain housing. Ultimately, the client secured dismissal of the debt.
