SEC Overhauls Mutual Fund and ETF Shareholder Reports

November 1, 2022
On October 26, 2022, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) unanimously adopted sweeping rules and amendments that will significantly change the look and feel of shareholder reports for mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and add new requirements for how investment company advertising discloses fund fees and expenses. The new rules also eliminate the ability of these funds to rely on the “access equals delivery” framework for delivering shareholder reports. The compliance date for the new rules generally will be 18 months after a likely effective date in early 2023.
