JACK ROXBURGH works on a broad range of high-value contentious matters, focusing on complex commercial litigation, dispute resolution and international arbitration.

Jack regularly works on proceedings before the English Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court, and the London Court of International Arbitration and the International Chamber of Commerce in arbitrations seated around the world. He has experience of working with a range of clients — including insurers, EPC contractors, project companies and sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, and venture capital, private equity and financial institutions.

Jack's recent experience includes:

• Acting for one of the world’s leading mineral fertilizer producers in a multi-billion dollar ICC commercial arbitration under English law arising out of the termination of an EPC contract for a chemicals plant in Russia. The case involved complex construction and sanctions issues, as well as complex and novel issues relating to the jurisdiction of arbitral tribunals over non-signatories (under English, Russian and Swiss law).
• Acting as supervisory counsel for an insurance company in relation to the ‘Russian Aircraft Lessor Policy Claims’ in England and Ireland. The total amount claimed in those actions exceeded US$5 billion.
• Acting for a major international bank in its successful defense (both at first instance and on appeal) against a Part 8 claim brought by one of its lenders. The case has attracted significant public interest and is one of the leading authorities on the construction of sanctions language in commercial contracts.
• Acting for major international dredging company in a multi-million dollar arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce (Singapore seat).
• Acting for a major international custodian bank in a multi-billion dollar ‘stakeholder’ application under Part 86 of the Civil Procedure Rules.
• Bank of Cyprus Public Company Limited in its successful defense and counter-claim against an application for specific performance brought by certain former customers (Phytos Stavrinides & Ors v Bank of Cyprus Public Company Limited [2019] EWHC 1328 (Ch)).
• Acting for a leading international hedge fund (as secured creditor) to successfully resist an application under the Insolvency Act 1986 to remove Administrators (and other relief), brought by a property developer.
• Acting for a leading international hedge fund as secured creditor, concerning the restructuring of Premier Oil UK Plc.
