Biography

CAT ZHANG represents private equity clients and public and private companies in domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, corporate restructurings, and general corporate matters. Prior to joining Sidley, Cat served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Christina A. Snyder of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and was a pro bono fellow at Public Counsel, where she worked on impact litigation. Cat also participated in Sidley’s summer associate program in 2016.

During law school, Cat was chief managing editor of the UCLA Law Review and editor-in-chief of the Dukeminier Awards Journal of Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity Law. While in law school, she was a Masin Family Academic Excellence Award scholar.

  • Warner Music Group and its affiliates in various media and entertainment transactions including:
    • The acquisition of a controlling stake in Tempo Music Investments, an investment platform for premium music rights of top songwriters, producers and artists (such as Adele and Bruno Mars), from Providence Equity Partners.
  • ZMC in its acquisition of a controlling stake of semiconductor silicon solutions and services company Pure Wafer.
  • Ridgeview Partners in its growth investment in IOT software and payment solutions provider PayRange.
  • 9 Story Media Group, a portfolio company of ZMC, in its US$186 million sale to Scholastic.
  • Houlihan Lokey, Inc. in its acquisition of Triago Management Development.
  • Sara Happ Inc., a lip care cosmetics brand, in its sale of a minority ownership stake to BGM Ventures.
  • HarbourView Equity Partners, a global investment firm focused on investment opportunities in the entertainment and media space, in its efforts to acquire BET from Paramount Global pursuant to an auction process, including related equity and debt financing matters.
  • Simeio, a portfolio company of ZMC, in its acquisition of PathMaker Group (PMG), a provider of identity management services and solutions.

  • IPC Television (Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath), an Emmy-winning television production company, and its equityholders and principals, including Eli Holzman, in the sale of IPC Television to CORE Media (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) and the relaunch of the combined entities as Industrial Media with Eli Holzman as CEO.
