Sidley Adds Securities Enforcement and Regulatory Partner Peter Malyshev in Washington, D.C.

January 21, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Sidley is pleased to announce that Peter Malyshev has joined the firm’s Regulatory and Enforcement practice in Sidley’s office in Washington, D.C. Mr. Malyshev joins from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, where he was Head of the commodity derivatives and the CFTC practice and a partner in the Financial Services Group.

Mr. Malyshev’s practice focuses on regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters relating to commodities, digital assets, derivatives, and securities products regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). For almost 30 years, Mr. Malyshev has assisted clients in the United States and overseas on numerous transactions involving over-the-counter and exchange-traded derivatives products in almost every asset class and market, such as banking, financial institutions, and insurance; agriculture, energy, mining, and emissions; transportation and infrastructure; interest rates and credit default swaps; and foreign exchange, digital assets and fintech, precious metals, and securities.

Mr. Malyshev assists various U.S. and non-U.S. derivatives and commodity market participants with formulating their risk management and regulatory compliance efforts under the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010 and the CFTC’s and SEC’s regulations, as well as cross-border application of U.S. regulations. He also advises on compliance under self-regulatory organizations’ (SRO) rules, including the NFA, and U.S. and non-U.S. DCOs and trading facilities and exchanges.

“Peter is Band 1-ranked in Chambers Global and Chambers USA, and an industry leader in commodity and derivatives regulatory and compliance issues,” said Yvette Ostolaza, Chair of Sidley’s Management Committee. “He is well-respected in the market and by the Sidley partners who know him. He is often called upon by regulators and Congress when new regulations are being developed and is a key addition to the firm.”

“Peter’s work, particularly in commodities and derivatives, fits well with Sidley’s strong broker-dealer practice and will significantly benefit clients,” said Kristin Graham Koehler, managing partner of Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Executive Committee. “Peter also has deep experience in the burgeoning crypto/digital assets as well as event contracts marketplace and will help our further expansion in this area. We are excited to welcome Peter to our office in Washington, D.C. and look forward to his collaboration with our team and clients.”

Mr. Malyshev is the latest arrival from Cadwalader who joins a leading Real Estate team including partners Bonnie Neuman, Melissa Hinkle, Nick Brandfon, and Molly Lovedale, who joined Sidley in April 2025.

Mr. Malyshev’s arrival also follows that of Securities Enforcement and Regulatory partners Barb Stettner and Ian McGinley to Sidley’s offices in Washington, D.C. and New York respectively, as well as White Collar: Defense and Investigations partner Lisa Miller, Regulatory and Enforcement partner Alana Genderson, and Privacy and Cybersecurity partner Michael Hochman to Sidley’s office in Washington, D.C. earlier in 2025.
