JOSEPH GOTTLIEB represents insurance companies, financial institutions, and investors in a broad range of transactions involving the insurance industry. Joe has extensive experience advising issuers and underwriters in insurance securitizations, such as catastrophe bond and reinsurance sidecar transactions and other insurance-linked securities. His practice also involves insurance company mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and other insurance and reinsurance transactions. In 2018, Joe was named the inaugural “Best in Insurance & Reinsurance” winner at the Euromoney LMG Americas Rising Stars Awards.

• Ryan Specialty in the launch of its flagship multi-class P&C sidecar that raised approximately US$400 million in committed capital (pending).
• ShoreOne Insurance Managers and American European Insurance Company in the US$125 million Charles River Re 2024-1 storm risk catastrophe bond.
• Allianz in its €250 million Blue Sky Re 2023-1 European windstorm transaction.
• PIMCO as investor and investment manager in Pando Re, a Bermuda-based collateralized (re)insurance sidecar focused on Aspen Insurance Holdings’ casualty business.
• Munich Re in its Eden Re reinsurance sidecar program.
• The World Bank in its US$630 million IBRD – Chile 2023, US$150 million IBRD CAR Jamaica 2024, and US$175 million IBRD CAR Mexico 2024 (Pacific) catastrophe bonds.
• AXIS Capital in its US$75 million Long Walk catastrophe bond, the first ever 144A cyber catastrophe bond, for which Sidley won Insurance Insider’s “Cyber ILS Award” in 2024.
• The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority in its US$100 million MetroCat Re 2023-1 storm risk catastrophe bond.
• Swiss Re as sponsor in connection with multiple catastrophe bond offerings.
• Westfield in its acquisition of the Lloyd’s operations of Argo Group, including Argo’s Lloyd’s managing agency and Argo’s members supporting Syndicate 1200.
• Jefferson National Financial in the sale of Jefferson National Life Insurance Company and certain of its affiliates to Nationwide Mutual.
