Biography

MATEO VASQUEZ focuses his practice on representing domestic and foreign clients in the offering and formation of private funds and advising investment managers in connection with ongoing legal compliance.

His experience also includes private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances. Mateo has extensive experience in international transactions, particularly those involving Latin America. He also advises secondary buyers on a full range of fund liquidity transactions.

Prior to joining Sidley, Mateo worked as an associate at a leading Colombian law firm where he advised domestic and foreign clients on the purchase and sale of Colombian companies in a wide range of economic sectors, and represented clients in consumer protection and transportation litigation.

While attending Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Mateo served as an L.L.M. representative for the Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center, and the Latinx Law Students Association.

Mateo actively represents nonprofit immigration organizations in helping clients navigate complex legal landscapes to secure proper status on a pro bono basis.

Mateo is fluent in Spanish and reads Portuguese.

Pro Bono

Mateo assisted Latin American immigrants seeking asylum in the United States in their asylum petition and/or employment permit renewal. He guided them throughout the various stages of the asylum process, including gathering and translating documentary evidence to support their asylum claim, updating their brief and ancillary documentation, and provided competent representation at immigration hearings.
