Biography
BROOKE BÖLL has significant patent and trade secret litigation experience spanning all phases, including pre-litigation strategy, developing substantive contentions and arguments, managing and conducting fact and expert discovery, and trial. Brooke has experience litigating in many forums, including federal courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Brooke has represented clients in matters involving a variety of technologies, including biologics, biotechnology, consumer electronics, and computer networking and telecommunications. Clients rely on her substantive knowledge and her ability to manage complex matters smoothly.
Brooke has been a key member of several trial teams in various forums. She is comfortable in the courtroom having examined fact and expert witnesses and argued critical motions. She frequently works with scientists, engineers, and experts to break down complex technological disputes in ways that are accessible to judges and juries.
Prior to joining Sidley, Brooke was an extern for the Patent Pilot Program of the Central District of California. While in law school she was an executive articles editor for the UCLA Journal of Law and Technology. During that time, Brooke was a research assistant for Professor Adam Winkler, served as a summer law clerk at an intellectual property litigation firm and volunteered at Bet Tzedek providing pro bono assistance for low-income, elderly Los Angeles residents. Also while in law school, Brooke was a Moot Court Honors member and won “Best Brief in the Western Region” of the 2017 Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition.

Representative Matters
Representative Technology Experience
- Representing Canadian Solar in various patent matters before district courts, the PTAB, and the ITC, including cases involving TOPCon solar cells and methods for etching of crystalline solar cells. Prior representations included an investigation relating to shingled solar modules and laser technologies, which settled without any monetary payment to the patentee after trial.
- Representing Microsoft in the Western District of Texas in a patent litigation matter involving distributed systems and software defined networking. Prior representations in patent litigation matters included a case involving haptic feedback systems (C.D. Cal.; settled favorably before claim construction) and co-pending cases involving telecommunications, software, and consumer electronics (W.D. Tex., settled favorably immediately before trial).
Representative Life Sciences Experience
- Represented biotechnology company asserting trade secret claims in the District of Delaware relating to discovery and development of bispecific antibodies for cancer treatment.
- Represented biopharmaceutical company in the District of New Jersey in patent litigation involving biosimilars to the company’s blockbuster biologic, including securing a ruling upholding patent validity following a two-week bench trial.
