Biography
JOSEPHINE LAW focuses her practice in both registered fund transactions and financial services regulatory advice. Josephine regularly advises on global payment and fintech regulatory matters representing both international corporations and start-up companies. She also has significant experience in establishing domestic funds, listing exchange traded funds on the Singapore Exchange, registering both domestic and offshore funds for retail distribution, and registering funds for restricted offers to accredited investors.
Josephine frequently advises on the establishment and licensing of fund management clients, as well as handling license applications with the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She also regularly advises on financial services regulatory issues relating to payment systems, stored value facilities, remittance business, credit cards and merchant acquiring, as well as regulated products and services under the Securities and Futures Act and Financial Advisers Act. Her experience includes advising both offshore and onshore financial institutions, including fund management companies, trustees, banks, broker-dealers, financial advisers, and payment service providers on Singapore licensing and regulatory compliance issues, such as advising on licensing requirements and exemptions, regulatory approvals for restructuring and change in control, cross-border marketing of regulated services and products and offering safe harbor exemptions, advertising rules, outsourcing requirements, derivatives reporting issues, anti-money laundering and disclosure of interests in listed securities.
Josephine has been recognized as a leading individual in Investment Funds by Chambers Asia-Pacific, Singapore (2016-2025). - Advising Alphadyne Asset Management, Verition Fund Management, and Avenue Capital Group on the establishment of their Singapore fund management offices.
- Advising Farallon Capital Management and D.E. Shaw, two U.S.-headquartered investment managers, on their regulatory compliance obligations in Singapore as licensed fund management companies.
- Advising offshore hedge fund managers on the regulatory regime for marketing and registration of funds.
- Conducting annual training for Singapore employees of a global hedge fund manager on the prevention of market misconduct and insider trading.

- Acting as Singapore counsel to EQT AB (STO: EQT) on its S$7.5 billion agreement to acquire Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA), a leading private markets investment firm in Asia with US$19.5 billion of assets under management.
- Acting as Singapore counsel to DigitalBridge Investment Management, a leading global digital infrastructure investment firm, in launching Xenith Infrastructure Group, a fiber platform serving hyperscalers, data center operators, carriers, and enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region, which was jointly founded with Columbia Capital.
- Advising Investcorp, a leading provider and manager of alternative investment products founded in Bahrain, on its Asia-Pacific expansion plans.

- Acting as Singapore counsel to AllianceBernstein on the registration of their Singapore prospectuses for their Luxembourg umbrella funds (AB SICAV I and AB FCP I) for offer to Singapore retail investors
- Providing Singapore regulatory advice to AllianceBernstein on its US$750 million acquisition of CarVal Investors, a global private alternative investment manager.
- Acting as Singapore regulatory counsel to PIMCO, a U.S.-headquartered investment manager, on its ongoing business conduct obligations in Singapore.
- Advising Dimensional Fund Advisers, a global investment manager, on its compliance obligations in Singapore as a retail fund manager.
